Gathering Lotus Buds
The
story of Amy Carmichael missionary to India
This
one woman reenactment of episodes from missionary Amy Carmichael's life
tells the story of a remarkable woman and her intense commitment to God.
• Lotus
Buds is a
missionary’s story
Amy Carmichael was
an Irish woman born in 1867. She
was the first Keswick missionary sent out from England, and eventually
ended up in India, where she labored for 50 years without home leave. Her life was dedicated to
evangelism and, as the need became apparent, the rescue and care of
children dedicated to prostitution in the temples.
Her concern for their physical and spiritual
well-being brought about the formation of Dohnavur Fellowship, a
Christian community in south India that is still in operation today. She wrote over 40 books,
and songs and poems, that tell the stories of the children, her work,
and lessons from God.
• Lotus
Buds is about
social concerns
Amy’s work
in rescuing children from temple prostitution helped raise the Indian
government’s awareness of the exploitation of children in the
name of religion. This
was instrumental in creating legislation prohibiting the practice of
temple prostitution and child marriage.
Child abuse takes many forms.
What are we doing today to prevent it?
• Lotus
Buds is a
challenge
Amy was profoundly
articulate on the Biblical teaching of the fellowship of
Christ’s suffering. Her
writings give original and compelling insights on subjects relevant to
our time. Gathering
Lotus Buds helps all of us
take an honest look at our own commitment to Christ and our willingness
to shine for Him in the midst of opposition, trials, and spiritual
warfare—wherever our mission field is.
